Leather aprons – style and durability to last a lifetime

For as long as people have worn clothing that they want to protect, they’ve worn aprons, you’ll even find depictions of ancient Egyptian Pharaohs wearing them.  MAHI leather aprons embody the beauty and practicality of this classic design, in materials, which will give you a lifetime of use.

Common Questions About Leather Aprons

What are leather aprons used for?

Perhaps you are more familiar with the light cotton aprons, which many of us use for cooking. They need washing, they get stained, and they wear out. Leather aprons are a heavy-duty alternative, which won’t need washing, get stained or wear out. If you get splashed with hot fat, you’ll be glad you were wearing a leather apron and their sturdy protection makes them ideal for the barbecue, where hot things sometimes get a little out of hand. A leather apron doesn’t just keep your clothes clean, it provides a layer of protection, so if your activity involves heat, glue, sharp objects, sparks, grime, water or anything unpleasant or abrasive, your leather apron will provide a whole lot more protection than that hilarious cotton apron that you got last Christmas.

Let’s not forget that as well as being durable and practical, leather aprons are also very stylish. If you are running a bar or offering catering services, your staff will look a lot more professional in leather aprons and what’s more, they’ll stay looking professional because MAHI leather aprons won’t stain or look dirty and as everyone knows, leather looks even better with age. Check out MAHI’s branded leather aprons, a corporate solution that enables you to have your company’s logo, name or slogan embroidered on any of the MAHI range of aprons.

How do you care for a leather apron?

Well, that’s the beauty of a leather apron; you really don’t need to do anything. You can replenish the natural oils by rubbing in a leather treatment product but as long as you keep your apron clean and store it in a dry place with ventilation, then you really don’t need to do anything else.

How do you clean a leather apron?

Really, this couldn’t be easier, or quicker, because all that your apron needs is wiping with a dry cloth.

Can you cook in a leather apron?

Many of our customers use our leather aprons for cooking, either professionally or in a domestic situation.  If you are used to using a cotton apron you may find your leather apron feels a little heavier to begin with but you’ll soon appreciate the added protection it affords and the fact that you don’t need to wash it every time you use it. Like all leather goods, the more you use it, the more supple it will become and as the year's pass, the more attached to it you will become.

Can you woodwork in a leather apron?

Can you woodwork safely in anything else? When that chisel slips or you are a little careless with the rasp, you’ll be grateful for the protection a leather apron affords.

What choice of leather aprons do MAHI offer?

MAHI offers a range of aprons to suit your needs, all of them made to order, using top quality full grain leather, sturdy brass fittings and heavy-duty stitching. The Classic apron features a single front pocket and adjustable neck and waist straps. Variations on this design offer the choice of double pockets or multiple small pockets and a towel loop. The MAHI Cross Back apron is a design variation which reduces pressure on the neck and is perfect for long hours in the bar or kitchen. For complete protection choose the MAHI Long apron, which comes with a large front pocket and six small ones.

The Classic Hairdressers apron has 28 pockets in varying sizes, one large zipped pocket and two tool-holding pouches and the half apron features four front tool pockets.

For a lighter, vegan option, consider the Classic apron in cork leather. Cork leather won’t resist cuts and abrasions in the way a leather apron will but it will repel liquids and is very durable.
